Larger
scale projects with contamination at depth over extended areas. Long-term cleanup/containment and protection of adjacent 'clean' areas. |

| Technique | |
This technology involves the installation of a barrier, either semi- permeable or cut-off, to isolate or control an area of contamination and prevent migration. The barrier can be constructed of modified clay, steel piles, non permeable plastic or slurry and can be installed into lower, less permeable layers or remain 'hanging' to maintain groundwater flows. Treatment gates installed permit controlled groundwater flows and treatment. |

| Benefits | |
This technique can
be installed to isolate large areas of a site and is good for contaminants extending to depth over areas less suited to
alternative techniques. |
